Screen Printing vs. DTF: Which Is Right for Your Order?
Two of the most popular ways to put a design on a shirt are screen printing and DTF (direct-to-film) transfers. Both look great and last — but they win in different situations.
Go with screen printing when…
You're ordering in bulk and your design has a handful of solid colors. Screen printing pushes thick ink through a custom screen for each color, so there's a setup cost up front — but the price per shirt drops fast as your quantity climbs. For 50+ tees or hoodies with a one-to-four-color logo, it's almost always the most cost-effective, most durable option.
Go with DTF when…
You need full color, fine detail, or just a few pieces. DTF prints your artwork — gradients, photos, unlimited colors — onto a film that's heat-pressed onto the garment. There's no screen setup, so there's no minimum order and no per-color charge. It's perfect for small batches, one-offs, and complex designs, and it's our fastest option when the clock is ticking.
The quick rule of thumb
Big run, simple colors → screen print. Small run or full color → DTF. Not sure? Tell us your quantity, your art, and your deadline, and we'll point you to whichever gets you the best result for the price.
